Quincy Jones: A Musical Genius

Born March 14, 1933, on Chicago’s South Side, his family moved to a suburb of Seattle when he was ten years of age. Quincy Delight Jones, Jr’s love affair with musical expression began when he was in elementary school, and his choice to play the trumpet evolved only after he had tried every single instrument available to him in high school band. Last Year for Grad Nite in Orlando

The high school graduating class of 2011 sure is lucky; they are the last students able to celebrate their graduation at Disney World. The official Disney Parks blog just announced that after this year Disney World has no intention to continue the Grad Nite tradition. For decades the resort has hosted Grad Nites in the spring, offering seniors an exclusive party in honor of their achievement. Charlie’s Got More than Luck

Most Disney Channel original series focus on the lives of their intended audience. Shows on Playhouse Disney often feature young protagonists learning to interact with the world. The plethora of Disney Channel’s tween and teen shows, the channel’s bread and butter, again usually focus on the lives and problems of its protagonists, whose ages usually match that of the channel’s target audience. Miley Cyrus’ New Direction

It’s looking like Miley Cyrus will only be safe for her young fans as long as she’s donning the blonde Hannah Montana wig. While the super-popular Disney Channel show will return this summer, the rest of Cyrus’ material is no longer necessarily suitable for mass consumption by all of her fans. I stumbled across the music video for Miley Cyrus’ latest single “Can’t Be Tamed” on a Washington Post article comparing her career to former Mickey Mouse club starlets Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera. Underappreciated Disney Films: Newsies

I didn’t even have to watch or re-watch the new Underappreciated Disney Film, I know it so well. I haven’t seen it in full in years, but back when I was a teenager, I had both the movie and its soundtrack playing almost constantly. This Thursday, April 22, is the fortieth anniversary of Earth Day. In honor of that I’m making it Earth Week on the Disney blog, and I’m going to explore ways in which the Walt Disney Corporation contributes to ecological causes. Would You Allow Your Child to Wear a Purity Ring?

The Jonas Brothers wear them. So do some of the teens from “High School Musical.” Heck, there was even a point when Britney Spears sported one (what a joke). I’m referring to those mega-popular purity rings. The small silver rings are worn by young people to signify their commitment to abstinence.
