Wall-E Off the Wall and Pleasure Island Reimagined?

In the age of reimaginations (think Get Smart, Transformers and the upcoming Star Trek) is it any surprise that Disney imagineers are re-imagining another feature of the Disney properties? They did it with the Living Seas, transforming it into to the Seas with Nemo & Friends.

Pleasure Island

Disney is closing the nightclubs on Pleasure Island. Kevin Lansberry, Downtown Disney Vice President, describes their decision as "we are currently considering a number of unique concepts from around the globe as we re-imagine Pleasure Island." Six clubs will close on September 27 (Mannequins, 8 Trax, BET, Adventurers Club, Motion and Comedy Warehouse.

So what will become of the area? That remains to be seen. Some upcoming changes that Disney visitors will get to enjoy includes a T-Rex restaurant, a design your own t-shirt shop, a Central and South American cuisine restaurant and a tethered balloon that will allow visitors to rise 300 feet in the air to enjoy the sites of Lake Buena Vista. I've got mixed feelings about changing Pleasure Island, but Disney knows how to keep an area from becoming stagnant and even the changes they make to beloved classics (like the Living Seas) become classics in their own right. What do you think?

Wall-E off the Wall Response

Wall-E is a terrific movie and the movie going public is responding in droves. The film opened by making $62.5 million and stiff competition in the film Wanted (which did a more than $50 million on its own). Wall-E is the third highest grossing film from Disney Pixar and the studio expects to make over $200 million from it. Internationally, Wall-E grossed $33 million, bringing the weekend total to nearly $100 million right there, halfway to their goal.

No bad for the little robot that could and it's a movie that's worth seeing again and again. Have you checked out Wall-E?
