The Santa Clause 2 (2002)

Scott Calvin (Tim Allen) has fully accepted his role as Santa Claus and loves every minute of it. He works well with the elves, he has a good command of the magic that has been given him, and he looks forward to Christmas every year. His son Charlie still comes to the North Pole and helps him out, but this year, Charlie’s having some issues and has ended up on the naughty list. To make matters worse, there’s a slight problem. There’s a Mrs. clause in the Santa contract. Scott has to get married by midnight on Christmas Eve or … Continue reading

The Best Christmas Pageant Ever (1983)

Yesterday, Lauri reviewed the book “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever,” by Barbara Robinson. Today I’m reviewing the made-for-TV movie of that book, which is a must-see for me each and every holiday season. Our narrator is Beth Bradley, a serious-minded young lady who has a wide-eyed view of life and is learning to be a little cynical. She’s the daughter of Grace (Loretta Swit) and Bob (Jackson Davies) devout members of their local church. She and her brother Charlie attend Sunday School every week and are looking forward to the Christmas pageant, although Charlie really doesn’t want to be a … Continue reading

Bye Bye Birdie (1963)

“Bye Bye Birdie” has been one of the most famous plays, and then famous films, ever made. It’s one of those classics that everyone has seen and admits is a part of our modern culture. So when I popped it in, I was expecting something so marvelous, so witty, wonderful, hysterical beyond belief – and was sadly disappointed at every turn. I can’t for the life of me understand why this thing got the following it did. Essentially, it’s a satire on the effect Elvis’s drafting into the Army had on the nation. Conrad Birdie (Jesse Pearson) has been drafted, … Continue reading

The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause Review

I told you a few weeks ago about our plans to see the Santa Clause 3 when it opened and Friday afternoon, that’s exactly what we did. The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause is the third in the Santa Clause franchise that began back in 1993. The great thing about this movie franchise is that the same actors have maintained their roles and we’ve literally watched the young man who plays Charlie grow up in the part. When we last saw them, Scott Calvin aka Santa Clause found his Mrs. Clause in Charlie’s high school principal. Now happily married … Continue reading

The Vault Will Close on January 31st

As you get ready to do your holiday shopping over the next month, keep in mind that Disney is going to be putting a few more titles back into the Vault and will likely not be released again for another decade. For those of you who may not be familiar with the Disney Vault, putting these titles back in means they will no longer be for sale – retailers will remove them from their shelves and you won’t be able to order them. Your only chance for finding these specific titles again will be to look for someone selling it … Continue reading

The Santa Claus 3: The Escape Clause

I saw the first commercial trailer for this film today and I have to admit, I started grinning like an idiot. The first film in this franchise, The Santa Clause came out in 1994, an unbelievable 12 years ago. In that film, as you may recall, Scott Calvin is a divorced toy executive who is trying to spend Christmas Eve with his son Charlie. The disconnected dad is more than a bit startled when Santa falls off his roof in the middle of the night and even more so when he and Charlie finish delivering the presents – and find … Continue reading

Christmas Must Come to an End – Even for Disney

Ok, I’ve done it. I’ve bitten the bullet and finally put down my foot with an authoritative hand and all the other associated clichés you can think of. The time has come to put the Disney Christmas videos and DVDs away until the Holiday season is upon us once more. It’s almost the end of February for goodness sake – you’d think the boys would be sick of watching Disney characters getting snowed in at the House of Mouse, or Donald’s nephews reliving Christmas Day over and over until they do it right, or even Minnie and Daisy having their … Continue reading

Movies on Base vs. Out in Town

Many families will be hitting up the movies theaters this holiday season. For two reasons, one the kids will be out of school for next three weeks and have nothing else to do. Two, families tend to watch at least one movie in a theater during the holiday season. Maybe it’s to become a family once again since throughout the year you’ve been busy with work and school. Either way it works for everyone, kids enjoy watching movies and getting the snacks and the parents family. This brings one question for those military families. Will you watch the movie at … Continue reading

Do You Know What’s Happening at Disney’s California Adventure?

It’s the holiday season and the Disney theme parks are decking themselves out as they get ready for it all. As part of the celebrations, Disney’s California Adventure is decorating it from front to back. For starters, guests will notice that the letters at the entrance way that spell out CALIFORNIA have been redone to appear as swirling white and red peppermint sticks. You’ll find plenty of new attractions and old favorites at Disney’s California Adventure as well including: The High School Musical Pep Rally Monster’s Inc: Mike & Sully to the Rescue Soarin’ Over California (an absolute must, let … Continue reading
