Benefits Cut for Disney World Premium Annual Passes

The lobby of the Grand Floridian, one of Disney World’s most exclusive hotels Walt Disney World continues to aggravate its most loyal fans, as it announced in December that discounts for premium annual pass members will be cut.  The Orlando Sentinel has all the details. Since 2010 Disney World’s been pulling back a lot on the discounts it offers various pass holders.  This time, the target is premium annual passes, which already cost around $750 (Florida residents get a discount at around $600).  Now the shopping discounts premium annual pass holders receive have been cut in half. Let’s take a … Continue reading

Disney Parks Raising Ticket Prices

It might really be time to take advantage of those cheaper flights to Orlando, because Disney World’s just raised its ticket costs. The Orlando Business Journal reports that over the first weekend of June, Disney World bumped its one-day, single-park ticket to $89, when previously it cost $85. This might have been in response to Disney World’s biggest competitor, Universal Studios Orlando, raising its one-day single-park ticket price to $88. I think not, because the prices on many types of park tickets are going up this summer. Four-, five- and seven-day tickets to Disney World now cost $256, $268, and … Continue reading

Special Military Deals for Disney Parks

In 2011 the Disney parks are launching a special military discount campaign and to prove their commitment to the idea, the specials actually start now. The official Disney parks blog recently published details on its 2011 military discounts, which are currently in effect and run through September 28, 2011. The specifics differ a bit between Disney World and Disneyland. Let’s start with the original Anaheim park. At Disneyland active or retired personnel of any branch of the military OR (but not AND) their spouses have the option of purchasing special park-hopper tickets. The Disney Military Promotional 3-Day Park Hopper Tickets … Continue reading

Disney’s New Destination D

Remember when I talked about Disney’s new fan club D23, and couldn’t decide whether or not to join? The price of membership was a little high, and I was mostly interested in the earlier and cheaper ticket benefits D23 members get for the D23 Disney convention. A Disney convention sounds like a playground to me. Only tickets for the convention are open to the public, not just fan club members, hence my indecision. Well, it looks like it’ll be another year before I need to make up my mind. Disney execs have decided not to hold the D23 convention again … Continue reading

Bus Crashes at Disney World

I haven’t addressed the constant crashes at Disney parks because I figured that these things happen. I didn’t want to contribute to alarmism, and I thought I’d wait and see how Disney addressed the problem. But the crashes keep happening, so I’m wondering what’s going on. It’s really getting inexcusable. Three accidents within less than three weeks. Several people have been injured, and in one horrible incident, a nine-year-old boy was killed. Parks have accidents, and that’s something we accept when we go to them. But if this were a ride that had that many accidents within a short period … Continue reading

Monthly Payment Plan for Disney World in Works

Disney World Annual pass holders get all sorts of perks: constant easy entry into the park, parking benefits, admission into special exhibits like the Richard Petty Driving Experience, and more. Now Disney might add another bonus to that list: a monthly payment plan. A monthly payment plan would allow pass holders to pay their fees in smaller installments, rather than having to pay the full amount all at one time. This opens up the benefits of the annual pass to more people, those who may not have been able to pay the total cost all at once. For current pass … Continue reading

Leap to Help Frogs

If I lived in the Orlando area I would definitely buy a Walt Disney World annual pass. I’d especially consider doing so once I had children, and no, it isn’t so that I could drag a bunch of toddlers around the Magic Kingdom all of the time. Or try to get myself locked in there overnight to live out some childhood fantasies. Well, it wouldn’t be just for that. It’d be so I could play Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom. All right, I kid, though only sort of. No, I’d get a pass, and ones for my as-yet fictional children, … Continue reading

No Longer the Happiest Turkeys on Earth

Last year for Thanksgiving I wrote about the Presidential Turkey Pardon tradition. For many years now the pardoned turkeys make their way to a Disney Park to lead the Thanksgiving parade and then retire in luxury at Disneyland or Disney World. As of this year, however, pardoned turkeys are no longer being welcomed into the parks. The OC Register reports that this year Disney parks officials decided to stop hosting the pardoned turkeys. The decision doesn’t have anything to do with officials’ satisfaction with the tradition or any problems they’ve had with the turkeys but is, unsurprisingly, related to marketing. … Continue reading

No Queue for You

What would it be like to visit an amusement park with no lines for rides? That’s exactly the question Disney Imagineers are tackling. Orlando Attractions Magazine reports that Disney’s testing and preparations to introduce a new queue-less waiting system for their parks. Soon to be a thing of the past? The gist of the system kind of reminds me of waiting in line for a deli: Riders are given numbers corresponding to their place “in line,” and are free to wander around an area near the ride until their number is called. But that’s where the similarity to this and … Continue reading
