Miley Cyrus on Video Smoking Salvia

While I am not entirely surprised, I was still disappointed to see a recent video of Miley Cyrus “tripping out” on salvia, a legal marijuana-like plant. It seems that yet another child star has fallen from grace. Should anyone really be surprised? I hate to sound pessimistic but every time a new teen idol rises, I wonder when the downfall will hit. I am waiting for the likes of Justin Bieber and others to do the same. I would like to have a more positive outlook but it seems that fame and fortune is just too much for these young … Continue reading

Miley, Miley, Miley!

In case you didn’t know, teen Disney megastar Miley Cyrus turned 18 on November 23, but 2010 has not been the greatest of years for her. Oh monetarily, Miley is rolling in the dough. Forbes listed her as #13 on their yearly Celebrity 100 and she made about 80 bazillion dollars this past year. Okay, that was an exaggeration, but this kid is everywhere – trust me, she is loaded. Yet, 2010 has been rough on her personal life. First, TMZ released a video of Miley giving her The Last Song producer Adam Shankman a lap dance. Daddy Billy Ray … Continue reading

Miley Cyrus’ New Direction

It’s looking like Miley Cyrus will only be safe for her young fans as long as she’s donning the blonde Hannah Montana wig. While the super-popular Disney Channel show will return this summer, the rest of Cyrus’ material is no longer necessarily suitable for mass consumption by all of her fans. I stumbled across the music video for Miley Cyrus’ latest single “Can’t Be Tamed” on a Washington Post article comparing her career to former Mickey Mouse club starlets Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera. A viewing of the video certainly makes it look like Cyrus is eager to follow in … Continue reading

Disney Channel Friends for Change Games

“High School Musical” star Corbin Bleu at a prior Disney Games event In 2007 and 2008 the Disney Channel’s then-stars such as Miley Cyrus and the Jonas Brothers competed in a series of gladiator-style games for charity. The event was filmed and called the Disney Channel Games. The Orlando Sentinel has the scoop that after a two-year break the games return in 2011, albeit with some changes. This time, in keeping with the theme “Friends for Change” that the Disney Channel’s developed for its Project Green program, the event’s called the Disney Channel Friends for Change Games. Rather than filming … Continue reading

Angus T. Jones Strikes It Rich

You may have read the title and thought “Angus Who?” but if I tell you Angus T. Jones plays Jake on “Two and a Half Men,” you would probably go “Ah…yeah.” Angus had not appeared in much when he signed up for “Two and a Half Men” in 2003 – a few episodes on a couple of different television shows and a made-for-television movie. But then again, he was only ten years old at the time. Since then, viewers have literally seen Angus grow from childhood to young adulthood (he just turned 17) before their eyes. Along the way, he’s … Continue reading

D-Signed Like a Disney Star

Do any of you parents and Disney fans have any girls aged 10-15 who are also Disney fans? Then I have a tip for you that comes just in time for back-to-school shopping. Any fans of the Disney Channel’s hit “Sonny with a Chance” can now shop the styles of the show’s title character. ABC News reports that at the beginning of August Disney and Target got together to release “D-Signed,” a line of clothes modeled after the garb worn by Demi Lovato’s Sonny Munroe. “D-Signed” covers pretty much every article of clothing and popular accessory: shirts, skirts, dresses, pants, … Continue reading

America Embraces the Telenova

Of late I’ve found myself drawn to the concept of the telenova. The telenova is a form of television show originating in Latin American countries; the form usually revolves around a romantic story line told within a finite number of episodes. The stories tend toward predictable melodrama, but I’m drawn to them because they focus on a limited number of characters, thus lending greater development to the ones on the screen; the limited number of episodes means I don’t have to worry about the show continuing despite losing its steam after a few seasons. While I wouldn’t want all of … Continue reading

Disney Sing It: Family Hits

My husband and I are video game addicts. Console or computer, it doesn’t matter; we own a bunch of games and have played even more that we’ve borrowed from friends or swapped for others at GameSpot. It shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone here that my favorite game of all time is Kingdom Hearts. The super-popular Japanese franchise blends the action-RPG style of the Legend of Zelda games with an original and epic story line, one that includes character cameos from Final Fantasy (one of the most popular series of video games). But most importantly, the story revolves around … Continue reading
