Yesterday saw the launch of the much anticipated iTunes 7 along with new hardware including a new iPod video that will hold up to a 100 hours of video. So what makes iTunes 7 so special? Well, for Disney fans, Miramax, Touchstone, Pixar and Walt Disney films, including several classics, will not be available for purchase and download. The resolution is considered nearly DVD quality and the starting number is about 75 films.

Among the selection you can purchase are:

Prices for downloadable videos are commiserate with DVD prices ranging around $12.99 to $14.99. While these videos are only available for iTunes customers using their Mac and PCs. They can then sync the videos up onto their iPods. Steve Jobs is already planning for the future with the launch of a new piece of hardware called the iTV.

It's an innovation that's a long time coming, but it will allow users to view the streaming video and downloaded movies on their living room screens. This will actually make purchasing and owning iTunes movies a compatibility option for homes where the DVD can be played anywhere there is a DVD player.

The upside is that you'll be able to save on storage space and your downloaded movies won't get scratched or damaged. The downside is that you'll have to purchase new hardware to enjoy that feature in your living room. Check out the new iTunes store for all the details - but I have to say - downloading movies and having streaming movies available to my television definitely appeals to the geek in me!
