Any Disney fan has wondered this at some point in his or her life: what would it be like to work at Disney? Be it for the movie division, at the parks, as an Imagineer, or even just in a Disney store, surrounded by the characters we grew up with, we’ve probably all thought about it at some point. So it’s fun to hear about what it could be like to work at the Happiest Place on Earth (or its East Coast sibling). Heroes Work Here

At a Walt Disney Company shareholder’s meeting in Kansas City last Tuesday, Disney Co. CEO Bob Iger announced a new plan for the company to hire 1,000 armed forces veterans over the next three years. “As a new generation of America’s military men and women transition into civilian life, we are increasing our commitment and support for these modern day heroes,” Iger said in a press release on the Disney corporate website. ”It’s a measure of our respect for how much they have sacrificed on our behalf, and our sincere gratitude for their extraordinary contributions to this country.” Because this … Continue reading

A Blog of Sharing

I’ve been blogging here at Families.com for a while now and I’ve been enjoying it quite a bit. It took a while for me to get my own personal blog going (of things mostly unrelated to our son) but I finally got it up and running a while ago. It became a resource for another side of myself (primarily the artist/academic side) and I really enjoyed what I was able to do with it. Recently I helped one of my professors set up his own blog site for the purpose of answering questions about his particular field and it has … Continue reading

LAPD Cracks Down on Walk of Fame Superheroes – Part 1

If you have ever been to Hollywood, you have probably seen the superheroes that appear in front of Grauman’s Chinese Theater on Hollywood Boulevard. It’s a gimmicky thing that tourists love – or do they? The Los Angeles Police Department has shut down the impersonators because they received several complaints of harassment. I watched a documentary about these impersonators titled Confessions of a Superhero. In the documentary, Christopher Dennis, who has been portraying Superman for 19 years now, has his picture taken with tourists and reminds them that the superheroes only work for tips. He definitely looks the part, but … Continue reading

Pseudo-Celebrity Arrests: “The 40 Year-Old Virgin” Actor and Heroes Father

No big names being arrested this week like recent arrestees Raffaelo Follieri (Anne Hathaway’s ex) or rapper DMX, but pseudo-celebrity names are making headlines for offenses. If you watched the movie “The 40 Year-Old Virgin,” you may remember actor Shelley Malil. He played one of Steve Carell’s co-workers, but has also appeared in numerous television shows including “NYPD Blue” and “Reba.” The 43 year old was arrested for attacking a former girlfriend in Oceanside, California Monday night as he got off a train. Actually, it turns out to be more brutal than it sounds. The unidentified woman was found in … Continue reading

Writers Strike—Is There an End in Sight?

We should know by the end of the day. Later this morning writers and Hollywood producers will resume talks regarding contract negotiations. It’s the first time since the Writers Guild of America work stoppage began on November 5th that the two sides have agreed to return to the bargaining table. In the meantime, picketing by some of TV biggest stars and writers continues in Los Angeles and New York. The sign-toting strikers say they don’t plan to back down on their demand over payment for work aired on the Web. Writers want more money when TV shows and films are … Continue reading

The Fitness Blog Week in Review for Jan 6-Jan 12

Good morning, it’s a soggy Saturday here. It started raining yesterday and it’s been quite drenching. They are worried about freezing temperatures and there’s every chance we’ll have freezing rain and ice storms today so I have a feeling we’ll be fairly housebound for the weekend. That’s all right; we’ve plenty to do to amuse ourselves. Our daughter got Dance, Dance Revolution for Christmas and it’s time she and I spent some time together dancing our little tushies off. But before we dive into that, here is our Fitness Blog week in review. Saturday, January 6 Personal Fitness Challenge – … Continue reading
