The Magic Kingdom – Visiting with Children

Are you heading to the Magic Kingdom sometime soon? Worried about how you’re going to be able to do all you want to do while you are there? Let’s have a look at a touring plan that will get you to the park and out of the park while still achieving your goals. First and foremost, before you take your children to the parks or on the vacation, have a family sit down and determine what rides are absolutely important to go on before you arrive. For my family, Splash Mountain is a must do ride. It’s my daughter’s absolute … Continue reading

Do You LOVE the Haunted Mansion?

The Haunted Mansion has long been my favorite attraction at the Magic Kingdom. It has been my favorite since I was five years old and first visited the Magic Kingdom. With long lines and huge crowds, rides at Grad Night weren’t my priority, but I made it a point to see the Haunted Mansion! I skipped seeing Brittney Spears live (before she was HUGE) to go on this ride! So for all my fellow Haunted Mansion lovers, this blog’s for you! This attraction was originally dreamed up by Walt as a walk through ghost house. In his concept, it had … Continue reading

Furnishing a Haunted House

Each year, thousands throughout the country love to visit haunted houses at this time of year. It is a $300 million dollar industry with between 3,000 and 5,000 different groups running haunted houses. Now personally, I have never been to a haunted house. Well, I worked at one once as a volunteer guide and even though it was a bit cheesy and I knew where everyone was, it still scared me about the first 15 times I lead a tour through. However, if you love haunted houses, you may be wondering just where the people who run the haunted houses … Continue reading

Are you ready for a Jungle Cruise?

You can never accuse Disney of resting on their laurels. With their enormous success of transforming Pirates of the Caribbean into a powerhouse film franchise, Walt Disney Pictures is now turning their focus on another attraction at their Disneyland and Magic Kingdom theme parks. This ride in this case is Jungle Cruise, one of the original 22 attractions that Disneyland featured when it opened in 1955. Jungle Ride The Jungle Ride is one where visitors to the parks (that would be you and I) get to take a trip through the jungle on a riverboat. The riverboat guide shares his … Continue reading

My Favorite Attractions: Disney World’s Magic Kingdom

I’ve been back to the Magic Kingdom several times over the last 20 or so years. I enjoyed many of the attractions both as a child, a teenager, a young single adult, a newly married wife and on our last trip, a mother of a very eager and excited 4 year old. Over those many visits, I’ve put together a list of ten must see attractions at the Magic Kingdom, which ranks as my favorite of the different theme parks available for visiting during our periodic sojourns to Orlando, Florida. In no particular order, here are my favorite attractions at … Continue reading

History and Hauntings in New Hampshire

Families with roots in New England may have American roots that date back quite a few generations. New England was one of the first places in America to be settled by Europeans, so many of the first families of European descent to live in America made their homes there. Fortunately, the history of New England is very well preserved in museums, books, monuments, and other forms of historical memorabilia. If your family has roots in New England, particularly in New Hampshire, you may find it interesting to know that there are walking tours where you can explore the lore and … Continue reading

Mickey’s Halloween Parties

Halloween is my absolute favorite holiday. I love the candy and I love dressing up, and Halloween also summons sweet childhood memories about trick-or-treating with my friends and having autumn sleepovers (my best friend growing up’s birthday was two days before Halloween). So of course I’m excited to share what the Disney Parks’ plans are for the 2010 spooky holiday. Disney already excels in Halloween celebrations; their 1993 film “Nightmare Before Christmas” is one of my favorite to watch during this time of year (and then again at Christmas) and contains in my opinion one of the only good Halloween … Continue reading

Disney’s Plans to Broaden its Appeal

I’ve written a lot about the Disney Princess culture, and how it’s experienced some backlash lately. Though Disney makes truckloads of money off its Princess brand, it also takes a hit from the brand due to how alienating it supposedly is for boys. While Disney is in the midst of expanding its Princess line, adding a larger fairy tale section and brand new Pixie Hollow to the Magic Kingdom, it’s also got some elaborate plans to draw young male interest. Some of these plans are already in place. For a few years now the Hollywood Studios at Disney World has … Continue reading

Inside the Disney Limbo

After previewing “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides,” last week, I began wondering about the status of many other upcoming Disney films. While researching the movies Disney’s got on its production line, I discovered many promising titles (and some not so promising) that are currently in a state of limbo. A number of interesting projects are in various stages of halted production over at Disney right now. For today’s blog I thought I’d highlight some of these projects. “Enchanted 2” – All right, I’m cheating some here. The House of Mouse just announced that they plan to make a … Continue reading

5 Terrible Disney Movies

I’ve talked about the great animated Disney films and the great non-animated Disney films. That list wouldn’t complete if I didn’t discuss some of the great stinkers presented by Disney over the years. While there are several out there, I’ve narrowed this list down to the 5 worst offenders. If you haven’t seen them, count yourself lucky. The Haunted Mansion The success of Pirates of the Caribbean notwithstanding, making a movie that is simply based on the premise of an attraction in the parks is not a safe bet. The movie was a success commercially, but the plot was flimsy, … Continue reading
