Tips for Disney World Resort Hotel Stays

Today I just learned about a new Disney resort: the Disney Yacht Club resort.  When I say new, I don’t mean that it’s about to be built or to open, but that I had never heard of it before.  The resort’s been around since 1990.  There are just so many hotels at Disney World, it’s hard to remember them all or keep them all straight. It can be a dilemma for those looking to plan a Disney World vacation.  You may have crossed the first hurdle – deciding whether or not you’re going to stay on site – but you … Continue reading

Disney’s Pop Century Resort

Kelly Wrote: “Disney’s Pop Century Resort is Disney’s newest value resort. Taking its cue from a century’s worth of pop culture history, Disney’s Pop Century features such kitschy decor as an oversized Rubik’s Cube and a psychedelic 1970s resort area. A favorite of Disney value connoisseurs, this value resort remains a favorite because of its closer proximity to the other resort areas and its unique theming.” Pop Century is kitschy but that’s part of what makes it so much fun. This resort was designed by Arquitectonica of Miami, Florida. The goal was to capture the essence of 20th century American … Continue reading

Check into a Disney Character Room

I’m torn between two very different impulses when thinking about my eventual Disney World vacation. One part of me wants to keep the vacation simple, to stay in a hotel with a kitchen outside of the resort so I can save money on lodging and food. That’s the part of me that will probably win out. If I’m to afford a Disney vacation, that’s likely what I’ll have to do. But there’s another part of me, the kid still in there that’s especially pushing me to make that trip to Orlando. That part doesn’t necessarily want to go all out, … Continue reading

The Silhouette Studio

In my senior year of college I wrote several papers on my favorite poet, John Keats. As part of my studies I read a 600-page biography of the poet. One of my favorite sections of the book collected the many portraits of Keats into a glossy-paged insert in the middle of the book. Amongst the many paintings and sketches Keats’ artist friends completed of him included a couple silhouettes. I’d heard of the practice before then, but I’d never taken much time looking at or thinking about them. Popularized in the 18th century, making silhouettes became a favorite pastime for … Continue reading

The Grand Floridian – Why Should You Stay There?

The Grand Floridian is an experience I think that every Disney World visitor should have. My husband I stayed there during our honeymoon and I look forward to our next opportunity. Extreme Makeover: Disney Style

The Contemporary and Polynesian resorts recently underwent a guest room makeover to make these Disney resorts more inviting for guests. One of the great things about Disney’s Contemporary Resort and Disney’s Polynesian Resorts is that they are both on the monorail. Monorail access allows guests to get easily back and forth to the Magic Kingdom, Epcot and more. Both resorts opened in 1971 as a part of the grand opening of the Walt Disney World Resort. Both the Contemporary and Polynesian resorts were the first efforts of blending the fantasy vacation with not only the theme parks but the hotels … Continue reading
