Key West is a beautiful place. The pastel colored cottages, white picket fences and tree lined roads are nothing less than quaint perfection. If you were hoping for a laid back vacation in Key West but the kids wanted to go to Disney World, this is the perfect compromise. Disney's Old Key West Resort will provide you with a quiet, relaxed atmosphere in which to vacation and still provide the excitement the kids crave. Old Key West is a 156 acre resort complex with tin roofed and white picket fenced two and three story buildings set on tree-lined, winding roads with brick walkways. Old Key West is also a Disney Vacation Club resort. Homes not being used by timeshare owners are available as full service hotel accommodations for visitors.

Accommodations vary at Disney's Old Key West resort.

The deluxe studio comfortably accommodates a family of four with two queen-sized beds, a table with chairs, a private balcony, and a kitchenette complete with refrigerator, coffeemaker, microwave and wet bar.

The one bedroom home also sleeps four but has one bedroom with a king-sized bed and a whirlpool tub, the living room has a queen-sized sleeper sofa. There is also a fully equipped kitchen with a dining area, TV and VCR, a private patio and full sized washer and dryer.

The two bedroom home comfortably accommodates a party of eight with two bedrooms. One bedroom has a king-sized bed and the second bedroom has two queen-sized beds while the living room has a queen sized sleeper sofa. This unit also includes a whirlpool tub, TV with VCR, a fully equipped kitchen with a dining area and a full sized washer and dryer. A private patio is also included.

The three bedroom grand villa is for those large families or just those that like to bring along extended family. This unit accommodates twelve with three bedrooms, four bathrooms, a fully equipped kitchen, a living and dining room, laundry, TV, VCR, stereo and balcony.

Disney's Old Key West resort also offers the following amenities: babysitting and child care, laundry or valet, Discovery Club (for children ages 6-14), health club and free parking. A café serving breakfast lunch and dinner, a snack bar and a poolside snack shack are also on site.

Haveing been an owner at Old key west since 1994, I signed up for a finite number of ownership years with a finite number of owners shares "points" to be sold and available for use by Old Key West owners. Disney has found a way to now "oversell" and overload this time share by extending the ownership for for 15 years more, 2042-2067, long after most of todays buyers will be using it. But they are going to sell these future shares now and allow these owners to use Old Key West "NOW". This will severely overload the capacity of Old Key West for all of us now and in the near future and make it much harder to get reservations, especially less than months in advance. Disney NEVER notified the owners that they would be doing this and the customer services people have told me they did not believe that would happen! However, I called the sales department and they confirmed that points from the new 15 year extension would soon be available to buy and use in the immediate future. I had to sell one condo in Fla. last year due to a similar swindle by the ownership. All popular times for Florida trips had to go into a lottery every year and after 5 years of being locked out of any good weeks I sold. I think it very wrong of Disney to "swindle" the owners of Old Key West by going back on our original selling promises and conditions of finite points and years of ownership. Does anyone else feel that Disney has purposely misrepresented the additional 15 years as a benefit to us? Most owners I know felt the same about being offered ownership of something maybe our Great grandchildren would get to use. Now I know why we were offered something so unusable!!!

Wow. That's a real bummer of a story.

I've considered buying into the Disney Vacation Club too but ultimately, it is just a time share with even more hoops to jump through. Personally, I'd rather spare myself the hassle, make my reservations well in advance and pay as I go. It just seems to be the smartest way to go these days.
