Disney's Comic-Con 2010 Schedule

If there's one place I maybe want to visit more than Disney, it's Comic-Con. The crowds at Comic-Con turn me off a bit, but they are part of the experience as much as queuing in line at a Disney park.
Since its inception in the late 1970s, Comic-Con has morphed from a smallish gathering for fans of comic books, to the mother of mega-conventions including not only "genre" entertainment like science fiction and fantasy films, but hosting panels on popular movies, television shows, and other media.
Of course Disney has a presence at Comic-Con, especially because many years Disney fare is one of the more highly anticipated attractions. 2010 is no exception, with movies like "Tron Legacy" and video games like "Epic Mickey" on the horizon.
This week Walt Disney Corporate posted a press release with its full Comic-Con 2010 schedule, including details on all of its panels. With Comic-Con starting tonight, I thought I'd include highlights of the schedule for any readers lucky enough to attend this year, or for those of us who just have our noses smashed up against the glass (myself included).
Thursday July 22
11:15 a.m.-12:45 p.m. in Hall H Disney's hosting a panel on its hottest movie of the year, "Tron Legacy." Attendees will get to hear from the director and producers of the film, along with stars Jeff Bridges, Garrett Hedlund, Michael Sheen, Olivia Wild, and Bruce Boxleitner. The discussion will be moderated by popular comedian Patton Oswalt, and of course, the panel will include sneak previews of the film.
2-3 p.m. in Room #5AB, look forward to a "Tangled" discussion from the directors, head of story, character designers, and more. "Tangled" won't likely draw as many crowds as "Tron Legacy" at a convention like Comic-Con, but I know I'd be in line, if I could, for this panel.
Friday July 23
2:15-3:00 p.m., Hall H. "Don't Be Afraid of the Dark." Horror films have become an increasingly popular genre at Comic-Con, and so a feature produced and co-written by fan-favorite Guillermo del Toro should be quite a draw. Del Toro and director Troy Nixon present a first look at the story of a little girl who goes to live with her father and girlfriend in a creepy mansion, and unwittingly unleashes its host of evil creatures upon them.
Saturday July 24
2:30-3:15 p.m., Ballroom 20: ABC's science-fiction hit "V" returns to Comic-Con to preview its second season. Most of the major cast members will appear, including popular Comic-Con figure Morena Baccarin ("Firefly" and "Stargate SG-1").
4:30-5:30 p.m., Room #6DE: "Epic Mickey." I find it hard to believe that Comic-Con isn't putting the "Epic Mickey" panel in a bigger room, but that's probably because I can't think of many panels I'd be more excited for if I could attend. The game's designer Warren Spector will enter into a panel discussion on the game with Peter David, an award-winning comics author who's also writing Disney's upcoming "Epic Mickey" tie-in comics "Tales from the Wasteland." The discussion will include a peek at the comics and gameplay footage.
Sunday July 25
10:30-11:30 a.m., Room #6BCF: "Castle." ABC's procedural "Castle" likely wouldn't be much of a draw at Comic-Con. But "Castle" justifies its presence at the Con, and will likely be another hit panel for Disney, thanks to the presence of its lead Nathan Fillion. I had to include the "Castle" panel on this list because of him; Fillion is a superstar at Comic-Con thanks mostly to his role as Captain Mal in sci-fi fans' beloved "Firefly," and his work as Captain Hammer in "Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog."
I might not make it to Comic-Con this year, but one of these day's I'll get to go. And when I do, I'm definitely bringing the Disney panel schedule along with me. For the complete listings of Disney's presence at the Con this weekend, check out the press release here.
