Disney’s Pop Century Resort

Kelly Wrote: “Disney’s Pop Century Resort is Disney’s newest value resort. Taking its cue from a century’s worth of pop culture history, Disney’s Pop Century features such kitschy decor as an oversized Rubik’s Cube and a psychedelic 1970s resort area. A favorite of Disney value connoisseurs, this value resort remains a favorite because of its closer proximity to the other resort areas and its unique theming.” Pop Century is kitschy but that’s part of what makes it so much fun. This resort was designed by Arquitectonica of Miami, Florida. The goal was to capture the essence of 20th century American … Continue reading

Boating and Water Sports at the Polynesian Resort

One of the first things that struck me about the Polynesian Resort at Walt Disney World was the marina and the amazing variety of watercraft available for rent by resort guests. Deciding whether to stay at the Polynesian Resort and play on the lake all day or to visit one of the Walt Disney World amusement parks is a terrible position to be in. Do yourself a favor and plan to stay an extra day and just play on the water! The marina at the Polynesian Resort has a fleet of both motorized and non-motorized watercraft for rent. You can … Continue reading

Lodging at Disney’s Animal Kingdom

The Animal Kingdom has lodging at just about any level: from deluxe villas to discount resorts. If you want something themed around the Animal Kingdom you’ll have to go for the pricier places: the deluxe villas Jambo House or Kidani Village, or the deluxe Animal Kingdom Lodge. The two former are actually just specific floors/areas within the latter, which is an African-style lodge spread out over 43 acres. The Animal Kingdom Lodge has two of its own restaurants, which weren’t covered when I looked at the dining at the Animal Kingdom. They’re Jiko – The Cooking Place and Boma – … Continue reading

Disney STEP Classic

I never realized Disney had so many opportunities for youth until I started writing about them. In fact, there’s a whole subsection of the company devoted to the concept: Disney Youth Programs. Someday soon I’ll have to spend a while on its official website and tell you all about it, but for now I want to focus on something specific: Disney STEP Classic. The 2012 dates for the Disney STEP Classic performances have just been announced, so now’s the time to sign up and start preparing if you or someone you know is interested. But for those not in the … Continue reading

What Were These Parents Thinking?!

In December of 2007, three whole teams competing in the Pop Warner Super Bowl Competition at Walt Disney World were evicted from the Walt Disney World All-Star Resort because of a fighting incident at the hotel. The teams involved were the Westport Patriots of Baltimore, the Kahalu’u Hei’eia Broncos of Kailua, Hawaii, and the Waianae Tigers of Waianae, Hawaii. The teams given the boot were made up of kids between the ages of 14 and 16. Now, granted, kids that age have a lot of new testosterone running through their systems and get they worked up pretty easily but give … Continue reading
