Celebrate the Fourth Disney Styleby Angela Shambeda | More from this Blogger 02 Jul 2010 06:24 AM Sometimes it feels like almost all I'm ever doing around here is talking about things going on at Disney World. But the amusement park just keeps holding so many special events; I'd feel remiss if I didn't share the news with my fellow Disney enthusiasts, especially those lucky enough to make summer trips to Orlando (or Anaheim). Because we're heading into the Fourth of July weekend today, I thought I'd share with everyone the details of what Disney World's doing for its Independence Day celebrations. Disneyland really needs to start posting announcements as frequently on its web site as Disney World does, so I can start sharing more event information for the Anaheim park with you as well. Straight from the Disney Parks blog comes the unsurprising announcement that Walt Disney World will host not one, but three separate fireworks displays on Sunday evening. "Celebrate America Fireworks" go off at 9 p.m. in the Magic Kingdom, followed by the "Main Street Electrical Parade" at 10 p.m.
Over at Disney's Hollywood Studio, the fireworks kick off at 9:50 p.m. to a rock and roll soundtrack. Across the park at Epcot, the July 4 celebrations start early. The America Gardens Theatre Stage debuts the Voices of Liberty Fourth of July Concert at 12:30, 1:45, and 3 p.m. Disney characters will join the Spirit of America Fife and Drum Corps to perform. All day long within The American Adventure pavilion guests can find Betsy Ross telling stories and Ben Franklin wandering about to engage visitors on the promenade. For the main event, starting at 10 p.m., Disney World's amped up its "IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth," show, which already runs with fireworks every night, to include a Fourth-themed finale. The Disney parks blog also contains a notice that things at the Animal Kingdom will run as normal on the 4th, with the animal park closing at 8 p.m. I'm not really sure why Disney World PR bothered to mention that, but I'm assuming that means that all other attractions will operate and close at normal times on Sunday. Given that Disney holds firework shows every day and even bigger ones for most holidays, the fireworks they serve up for the 4th are going to be huge. I'm just guessing there, but I have a feeling Disney won't disappoint. If I lived in the Orlando area I'd go to Disney on the Fourth of July just for the fireworks alone. Everything else they're doing doesn't sound that special, or that unlike the celebrations taking place all across the country that day, but for me year after year of community fireworks gets a bit dull. I'm sure Disney's fireworks displays could re-ignite my interest in the American tradition.
