"Cars" is Breeding in my Home!by Katie-Anne Gustafsson | More from this Blogger 29 Jan 2007 04:00 AM It is. I swear it! I don't know where it's all coming from - but on the other hand, it explains where all the money is going. What am I talking about? Stuff connected to Disney/Pixar's "Cars" movie of course. With two small boys, it was inevitable that this movie was going to be a hit with our little ones. What I didn't expect was the deluge of "Cars" related merchandise that now lives in our home. Yesterday I was tidying up the boys' toy area and that's when this revelation hit me for the first time. As I picked up art items, stickers, collector's books, small copies of the cars, stationery items, I realized how much money we had spent on this movie, and for a second wondered if Disney cared about my contribution to their profits for 2006. I think the icing on the cake, so to speak, came later in the day as I was tidying away the last of the Holiday things and came upon half a packet of candy canes. At the time I hung them on the tree, I didn't take any notice of the packaging. As I checked the packet for a use-by date, it seemed to flash out at me, these weren't just any old miniature candy canes - they were "Car's" candy canes. For the life of me I can't figure out a connection between the movie and the canes, but there you go. I have to say that I didn't actually buy these ones myself, they were sent as a gift to the boys by their Godmother - who also sent them cookies that were decorated to look like 3 of the cars in the movie! It's not just the toys and candy though, Christmas "Cars" related gifts for the boys also included pajamas, slippers, clothing and a bath towel! These to go with the lunch box and drinks glasses they already have. Don't get me wrong, it's not that I object to buying the merchandise, it's oh so tempting to indulge my boys when they see items with their favorite cars on them, but it's incredible how this stuff seems to breed when you aren't keeping a check on how much of it they have! That's it, maybe because my boy is almost 10, not sure. I know I got a kick out of the show though. :) tripletsmom (14) 01 Feb 2007 10:23 PMI have two 2-year old boys and they love "Cars". My 2-year old daughter is enamored with Sally from "Cars". We're definitely overflowing with Cars merchandise here, too! Katie-Anne Gustafsson (604) 02 Feb 2007 01:34 AMI never thought anything would out-number the amount of Bob the Builder things we have here - I was wrong! But that was before "Cars" was released of course! Still even "Cars" has a long way to go before it out-numbers "Thomas". I'm just thankful that there is no merchandise whatsoever here in Sweden for the Polar Express! Both my boys are train mad ...come to think of it if they ever did a movie called "Trains" about steam engines we'd probably end up bankrupt! LOL Libby Pelham (12880) 10 Feb 2007 08:36 AMOh Katie-Ann, I could have written this blog! We have Cars cars, Cars pillows, Cars lamps (3!), Cars coloring books, Cars magnets, Cars stuffed toys, Cars lunch box, Cars cups, Cars plates (2), Cars books, etc. Every so often, I get "Cars" worn out - especially lately because we have to watch the DVD once a day. But it does crack me up when my two year old reinacts the whole movie with his Cars - LOL! Katie-Anne Gustafsson (604) 10 Feb 2007 09:09 AMLOL Libby. Mine don't act out the Cars movie but they do act out the Polar Express. Our car IS the Polar Express (actually it's probably about the same age...ahem) when they're both in it! Funny how they get so latched onto these movies isn't it? Discuss this article
