Take a Joyride to Radiator Springs at Cars Land

Radiator Springs is officially open for visitation on June 15. That’s the date that Disneyland’s newest park, Cars Land, is open to the public. The official Disney Parks blog has been posting a lot of pictures from Cars Land lately, but what I’ve actually found most informative about the forthcoming park is its own website. I want to refer to Cars Land as Radiator Springs because that’s basically what it is: guests walk right down Route 66 into the small town and they can visit all the shops and residences of the cars that live there. Swing by Fillmore’s Taste-In … Continue reading

Disney Recalls: “Cars” Backpacks, Baby Einstein Blocks and Cookies

Disney has recently initiated recalls on three products that Disney fans and visitors should know about. “Cars” Backpacks, made in China and sold at Target department stores from February through September of this year for $13 each are being recalled for the magnetic game pieces in them. The magnetic pieces are not child safe and, if swallowed, could lead to blood poisoning and even death. If you’ve purchased one of these backpacks, please be sure young children do not have access to the magnetic pieces and return the backpack to your nearest Target store. Baby Einstein Discover and Play Color … Continue reading

“Cars” is Breeding in my Home!

It is. I swear it! I don’t know where it’s all coming from – but on the other hand, it explains where all the money is going. What am I talking about? Stuff connected to Disney/Pixar’s “Cars” movie of course. With two small boys, it was inevitable that this movie was going to be a hit with our little ones. What I didn’t expect was the deluge of “Cars” related merchandise that now lives in our home. Yesterday I was tidying up the boys’ toy area and that’s when this revelation hit me for the first time. As I picked … Continue reading

Driving the Family Germ-mobile

“If you’re a soccer mom, you’re essentially driving a germ-mobile.” Or so claims a microbiologist from the University of Arizona who conducted a study on bacteria levels in people’s vehicles. The conclusion: Most of us are driving around in motorized toilets. Scratch that. Actually, what this germ expert concluded was that in most cases the toilets in our homes are cleaner than the interior of our vehicles. Food for thought the next time you consider loading up the kids for a ride to grandma’s house. Before you start bleaching your dashboard take a look at the details of the study: … Continue reading

And the Winner is ……?

I’ve spent a number of blogs talking about “Cars” and the impact this movie has had on my boys and subsequently the amount of “stuff” we have in our home, but the movie’s also caught the attention of those “in the know” as can be seen from the amount of awards that it has been nominated for this year. It is doing so-so at converting these nominations into awards however. But I don’t think that this is necessarily a reflection of the movie itself, but rather the high standard of competition that it is up against. “Happy Feet” for example … Continue reading

Retro Mondays: The Hula Hoop

I know we all like to hear about the latest celebrity gossip, know what fashions are hot, and just read the latest pop culture news in general. BUT, there are times when I like to reminisce about pop culture’s past. After all, there has been a lot of stuff that could classify as pop culture happen in the past 100 years in this wonderful country. So, on Mondays, I am going to start doing a retro blog. I will pick something that made an impact on us and write about it. But, I would like your help. Let me know … Continue reading

Turns Out it’s not just the Kids!

A couple of my blogs this week (“Cars” is Breeding in my House, and Counting the Years with Merchandising) have been pondering on the very successful merchandising efforts of Disney, and reflecting on how much stuff we’ve bought for our kids, and how payment for this must be helping to keep Disney employees paid. Continuing my thoughts on this (with 2 preschoolers, a freelance business, and a home – and hubby to take care of, you need to let your mind work on something pathetically unimportant now and then just to keep the stress levels down), I realized that it’s … Continue reading
